Seriously, I thought it touched the sky.
When I was a kid, we had what I swore was the biggest sledding hill along Western Golf Course in Redford, Michigan – part of the Detroit suburban sprawl..
Fast-forward a few decades, and I went back.
That mountain of my childhood?
More like a gentle speed bump.
I actually laughed out loud.
Funny how some memories shrink when we revisit them.
But there's one place that hasn't.
Lake Michigan.
When I walk through the dunes, turn a corner, and suddenly there she is.
Vast. Sparkling. Endless.
Even after all these years, she still takes my breath away.
 
This painting, Beyond the Dunes, is my love letter to that feeling—that moment of awe when the horizon reminds you the world is full of possibilities.
It's a place that gives my heart room to breathe, reset, relax, and shift a little.
And unlike my childhood sledding hill, Lake Michigan hasn't shrunk one bit.
