"Go Wild" 10h x 8 w - original painting
“Donut?" I whispered to my youngest son—my early riser when we camped.
Not wanting to wake his sleeping older brother, we'd tiptoe out of the camper and scoot to the camp store.
Donut in hand, we'd head to Lake Michigan and watch the sun tell a story across the water.
Every morning she told a different one.
"Go Wild" is one of six new small Lake Michigan paintings.
Some mornings she was quiet.
Other mornings the waves rolled in with a little more attitude.
But what always surprised me was the color.
Most people think of sand as tan.
Lake Michigan disagrees.
Blues. Lavender. Aqua. Peach. Gold.
The wind would shift.
The waves would build.
The colors would change.
Some days I recognized myself in that.
This painting, Go Wild, celebrates one of her wilder moods.
And celebrate that it’s okay for us to Go Wild every once in awhile, too.
All because of donuts and a rambunctious 10-year-old who never seemed to sleep in.
