(Color Inspiration Series)
Choosing color for your home doesn’t have to start with paint chips or trend reports.
Sometimes, the answer is already hanging in your closet.
When we wear certain colors again and again, it’s often because they make us feel good — calm, confident, grounded, or energized. That same emotional response can guide the colors we live with in our homes.
This idea has shaped how I paint, decorate, and teach color confidence.
Start With What Already Feels Like You
Many of us instinctively reach for the same colors when getting dressed. Not because we’re playing it safe — but because those colors support how we want to feel in the world.
For me, it’s blue.
I wear it often. I’m drawn to it instinctively. It mirrors my eye color, yes — but more importantly, it brings a sense of calm and clarity that I carry into my day.
That response matters.
If a color makes you feel good on your body, chances are it will feel good on your walls too.

Let Art Anchor the Palette
Once you recognize your core colors, artwork becomes a natural next step.
A painting can do what paint alone sometimes can’t — it blends color, emotion, and meaning.
Art gives a room permission to be layered rather than matched, expressive rather than perfect.
Instead of asking, “What color should this room be?”
Try asking, “What do I want this room to feel like?”
Then let the art lead.
A Simple Way to Begin
If you’re unsure where to start, try this gentle exercise:
Look through your closet
Notice the colors you reach for most
Identify one or two that make you feel most like yourself
Those colors already belong in your home.
Color confidence doesn’t come from following rules. It comes from recognizing what feels right — and trusting it.
Closing Thought
Your home doesn’t need more trends.
It needs more you.
Sometimes, the best inspiration is already hanging right in front of you.
